I want to study Japanese because I've always been fascinated by Japanese culture. I love the art of traditional tea ceremony, Judo, Aikido as well as Japanese Gardening. I also have a collection of kimono which I wear to spring matsuri and tea ceremonies. I started learning Japanese this semester because of a promise I made to my friends in Tokyo. I met them over the summer and we developed deep friendship as we lived under the same roof for two weeks. Even we communicated with each other pretty well in English, I still wish to get to know them more by speaking in their mother tongue. On the night before we said goodbye, I told them in simple Japanese sentences: "next time I see you, I wish I can speak to you all in Japanese". Therefore my heart feels warm every time I speak Japanese since it reminds me of the promise I made to my friends and the memorable time we spent together
in Tokyo.
in Tokyo.
First off, those kimonos are so pretty omg. Anyways, how did you get the opportunity to go to Japan? Were you visiting friends or family, or doing some study abroad type program? Either way, that's really cool that you got to experience that, and I also found your interests.... interesting, since most people are more inclined to the more glamorous and commercial side of Japanese culture, instead of the more interesting traditions. I myself am really interested in Japanese gardening styles; I love gardening and I find Japanese gardens to have the most beautiful organization and layout, and I especially love rock gardens because they just feel so tranquil :)
ReplyDeleteI went to Japan this summer for HLAB which is a pretty cool teaching program. I got to teach a seminar to Japanese high school students and it was a lot of fun!! I highly recommend you to apply if you are interested ;) and yesss I love Japanese traditional culture cuz it seems like every little detail of life can be valued as a piece of art. Also I'd love to hear more about Japanese gardening from you. Sounds like you are quite an expert haha :D
DeleteOoooh thats so cool, I'll look it up. And yesssss that's a lot of why I love the culture, because it is so appreciative of the little things :) And yeah, I've had a lot of experience with gardening and am really interested in botany, so if you ever want to know anything or need to save a plant then let me know :)
DeleteYour story is so sweet! <3
